It is based on the English magic tradition and spans the period from the reigns of Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth to the Restoration. Weiser’s big book is The English Magic Tarot (Oct.), with illustrations by Rex Van Ryn and colorist Steve Dooley, written by Andy Letcher. “There has been an explosion of popular interest in tarot,” Kerber says, “and we’re seeing increased demand from both trade bookstores and specialty accounts for tarot books and decks.” His Weiser Books imprint has three upcoming titles. (Tarot was a card game in 15th-century Europe but had evolved into a method of fortune-telling by the 18th century.)
